Cecilia Garcia Amaro Cecilia Garcia Amaro hails from Guadalajara, Mexico. From meager means and a loving family who understood her youthful talents, her parents chose to settle in Monterey, Nuevo Leon. There, Cecilia studied interior design at the Superior Institute of Art and Culture. Amaro moved to Tijuana in 1980 where she cultivated her abilities not only through visual expression, but also through music and poetry. It was this juncture that defined her unique place in the pantheon of revolutionary artists from Mexico. Amaro determined that her art must connect not just through the eye, but also through word and song. Her first exhibition at Disarte Gallery in Tijuana, Baja, California she performed her song entitled "Canto Sobre Papel¿" (“Song Over Paper") in the midst of her gallery. An icon was born. Virtually revered in her native Mexico, Amaro’s art hangs with the country's greatest muralists, Rivera, Siqueiros and Orozco. A talent as unique as it is incessantly inspired, Amaro’s work and performances have become genuine cultural events. Her paintings, robust with color and striking form are informed both by her meter and music and the experience of walking among her originals while listening to her song can only be described as deeply evocative and sensual. Witnessing the intersection of mind, eye, and ear around a focal point of incalculable talent is a truly remarkable opportunity. Amaro’s affectionate, giving and inventive spirit continually garners praise and new followers and transcends cultural boundaries worldwide. |
